Mengascini Bayan Converter

64 note / 120 bass – Free bass converter

The Mengascini Bayan Converter is hand built by highly skilled craftsmen in Castelfidardo, Italy by Mengascini. This is a high end concert accordion and is fitted with the best hand made Italian “A Mano” reeds throughout. We think the Mengascini Bayan is one of best chromatic free bass converter accordions being built in Italy today.

This is a full size 64 note concert bayan with 120 bass/58 note free bass converter and is particularly well suited to playing classical music. This model features an extra voice in the left hand giving 3 voices for the free bass keyboard rather than the usual 2. This gives more registration options for the left hand than would usually be available. It would be suitable for university or conservatoire students, professional accordionsts and not forgetting amateur players. It is available in either B or C system layout and is highly customisable.

What's the left hand side got?

The Mengascini Bayan Converter is a free bass converter accordion and has 120 “bass” buttons on the left hand keyboard. The left hand keyboard “converts” between Standard bass and free bass by pressing a switch on the left hand keyboard.

The standard bass keyboard has 120 “bass” buttons and has 6 rows of buttons with 2 rows of bass notes (Fundamental and Counterbass rows) and 4 rows of preset chords (Major, minor, seventh and diminished chords). The 2 rows of bass notes use six voices and the 7 register switches control the various permutations of the six voices. The chord rows use three voices tuned in unison and it is also possible to select a single reed sound using the register switches.
The free bass keyboard maintains the 2 rows of bass notes while “converting” the 4 chord rows into 58 seperate free bass notes spread over the 4 rows. The lowest 12 notes use the same six voices as the standard bass notes and the register switches give the same combination of the 6 voices. The remaining 46 notes use two voices tuned in unison and an extra high octave voice although many combinations of the threee voices can be selected using the register switches.

What's the right hand side got?

The Mengascini Bayan Converter is a 5 row converter bayan and has 106 button keys spread over the 5 rows it is available with the C system or B system (Russian bayan) layout and there are 64 seperate notes available. This is a double cassotto accordion and has 4 voices on the right hand side with 2 voices in cassotto. It has 15 registers and they can be selected using one of the 15 register switches and also by using the 7 chin registers provided.
