Production of free reed instruments has taken place in Tula, Russia since the early 19th century. Firstly only small diatonic instruments, then chromatic “Garmoshkas” and eventually chromtic bayans. What started as a cottage industry was ultimately reorganised into a state factory. During the soviet era, the Tula bayan factory was responsible for over half of the bayans produced in the Soviet Union. Today they produce a large range of bayans and Garmoshkas to pretty much the same design that they have done for decades. Please browse our selection of Tula bayans below.
